Friday: Asakusa

asakusa tokyo japan

In the afternoon, Misterpiggy got lost trying to get to Asakusa and ended up walking for about 40 minutes from Ueno.  The Asakusa area is one of the oldest sections of Tokyo and includes many small temples and shops related to temple offerings.  There is also a large pagoda to see.

At the entrance is a giant lantern and once inside the gates, Misterpiggy found many shopping stalls selling gifts, knick knacks and snacks on the street called nakamise-dori.  Unfortunately, the main Sensoji temple was undergoing renovations so it was entirely covered up by scaffolding.
