Wednesday: Night time views of Tokyo

After Misterpiggy checked into his hotel room, he promptly went outside to look for a bite to eat as this little piggy was famished as it was now 8 pm Tokyo time. Misterpiggy found a pedestrian tunnel used by office workers heading back towards Shinjuku Station after a long days work. This tunnel housed an array of shops, restaurants and fast food eateries. Misterpiggy decided to try out Yoshinoya, a sit at the counter, rice bowl, fast food place frequented mostly by male office workers heading home after a long day. He tried the pork (!) and beef rice bowls for a grand total of 1000 yen (about 10 CDN). Not spectacular but it filled up his little belly.

After dinner, misterpiggy headed up to one of the free observation decks that are located in the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings. To get to the elevators that take you to the observation deck, you have to enter the building through the lower pedestrian concourse after office hours.  Don't use the street level concourse as it won't have access to the observation deck elevators.

The 43rd floor observation deck provided a nice 270 degree panorama of the surrounding buildings below. It also housed a few gift stores and a piano bar as well.  Sorry for the blurry pictures as Misterpiggy's camera doesn't take good pictures at night.

After taking in some very nice views of Shinjuku at night, Misterpiggy headed back down to street level and wandered and explored Shinjuku alleyways near the train station. These alleyways consisted of more fast food eateries, restaurants, electric appliance stores and pachinko parlours. Unfortunately, by 10 pm, the merchants all started to close up shop, so it was time for Misterpiggy to head back to the hotel and call it a night.  Piggy in a blanket by 11 pm!
